One of the year’s most anticipated events here in San Diego County is the Del Mar National Horse Show, with visitors coming from around the world to see one of the oldest and most prestigious equestrian competitions in the Western United States.

And, as always, one of the highlights of the show is the Night of the Horse, an evening of exhibition that showcases equestrian acts of all kinds.

This year, the Night of the Horse takes place on Saturday, April 21 at 7 p.m. and features a variety of equestrian showmanship that the whole family will love.

The show’s mistress of ceremonies this year will be none other than actress Bo Derek, who is also an accomplished horse woman.

Ramon Becerra’s dramatic liberty act is a magnificent illustration of the history of man and horse, exhibited through a graceful performance of elegant and difficult maneuvers. Becarra’s show also promises to dazzle the crowd with the highest levels of classical dressage and some adorable miniature horses in Aires Above the Ground.Jennifer Welch and the Riata Ranch Cowboy Girls will perform their world famous high speed trick riding.

The Dog and Pony Show, a satirical comedy routine, will have the audience rolling in the aisles as they watch Luciano Aguilar and Roman poke fun at horse and dog whisperers.

A salute from south of the border featuring trick ropers, escaramuza riders, Folklorico dancers and the incredible voice of talented, young Paquito Herrara.

Sandy Collier, the only woman ever to win the National Reining Cow Horse Association Snaffle Bit Futurity, will take reining one step further with dizzying spins, slides, and an array of fast moves, all choreographed to music.

Described as “Blue Angels on Horseback,” the Rainbow Riders of Ramona, California will once again bring their high energy, precision act to Del Mar. They have been a fan favorite since 1993.

After the show, spectators will have a chance to meet some of the performers and get autographs and photos.

Night of the Horse promises to be an exciting night of equestrian exhibition, so be sure to visit the Del Mar National Horse Show’s Web site at www.delmarnational.com to find out more.
